Verbatim: Banks files for re-election

The Journal Gazette

Rep. Jim Banks, R-3rd, issued this news release today:

INDIANAPOLIS – Congressman Jim Banks (IN-3) today officially filed his candidacy for re-election to represent Indiana's Third Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"It is a privilege to wake up every day and go to work on behalf of northeast Indiana," said Banks. "I am proud of the significant accomplishments achieved during my first term. From improving the care and benefits our veterans receive to rebuilding our military to reforming our tax code, Republicans in Congress have fulfilled promises we made to change the status quo in Washington and grow our economy. There is more work to be done, but we are seeing the positive effects of the conservative agenda I have fought to advance.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to be our region's voice on Capitol Hill, and I look forward to meeting with northeast Indiana residents over the next year to earn their support for re-election."

Banks is a native Hoosier who served in the Indiana State Senate from 2010 to 2016. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a supply corps officer and took a leave of absence from the Indiana State Senate in 2014 and 2015 to deploy to Afghanistan during Operations Enduring Freedom and Freedom’s Sentinel. He received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his military leadership in Afghanistan. Banks and his wife, Amanda, have three daughters, Lillian, Elizabeth, and Joann.

Congressman Banks will be releasing details in the coming weeks about a more formal announcement event.
