Mini bikes recalled for fire hazard

The Journal Gazette

Monster Moto LLC of Ruston, Louisiana, has recalled about 1,800 of its Moto Classic 212cc mini bikes because the fuel tank venting system can leak, posing a fire hazard, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced.

The company has received 38 reports of gasoline leaks, the commission said in a statement. No injuries or fires have been reported.

The recall involves model MM-B212 off-road mini bikes with a black powder-coated, gusset-reinforced, welded tube steel frame.

The bikes were sold at True Value, Mills Fleet Farm and other stores, and online at amazon.com and monstermoto.com, from October 2017 to January 2018 for between $800 and $850.

Consumers should stop using the bikes and contact Monster Moto for a free repair kit or to arrange a free repair at an authorized repair center, the commission said in a statement.

Monster Moto can be reached at 888-698-3508 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fort Wayne time weekdays, email at recalls@monstermoto.com or online at www.monstermoto.com/recalls.
