LIGONIER -- A Fort Wayne man has been arrested in connection with two people found dead in Ligonier Monday night.
Noble County and Ligonier police are investigating a double shooting that happened shortly after 9 p.m. in the 200 block of Water Street in Ligonier, county prosecutor Eric Blackman said in a news conference today.
County dispatch had received a 911 call that someone had been shot, and when police arrived, they found a man lying outside on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
When officers entered a residence, they found a woman dead inside who was also shot.
A witness told police about a possible suspect and the suspect's vehicle. An officer with LaGrange police found the vehicle and tried to stop it, Blackman said.
Police took Michael Johnson into custody following a pursuit on U.S. 20.
Two women were also taken in for questioning, one found in Kendallville and the other in Fort Wayne. Blackman did not release the women's names.
Investigators are seeking search warrants today, Blackman said, in the hope of filing formal charges soon.
No reason for the shooting has been released.
It's been 25 to 30 years since the last homicide in Ligonier, Blackman said.
