A father and son were arrested Monday after a drug raid in Columbia City, Indiana State Police said today.
Gerald L. Tyrell Sr., 54 and Gerald Tyrell Jr., 29, both of Columbia City, were taken into custody, state police at Fort Wayne said in a statement.
The arrests came after state police, along with the Columbia City Police Department and the Whitley County Sheriff's Department, searched two properties in Columbia City, netting a cache of drugs, the statement said.
Police obtained search warrants after intercepting what they believed to be a large amount of marijuana being sent through the U.S. mail to the Tyrells in early March.
When officers searched the properties, they found more than 12 pounds of marijuana, four pounds of hallucinogenic mushrooms, multiple firearms and more than $14,000 in cash, police said.
Tyrell Sr. was charged with dealing in a controlled substance, dealing in marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance. He is in the Whitley County Jail on a $150,000 surety bond.
Tyrell Jr. was charged with aiding with dealing in marijuana and two misdemeanor charges of possession. He has been released on a $15,000 bond.
Both men will have initial hearings on Monday, police said.
