The Journal Gazette
Arnie and Lloy Ball have been named to the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's second Hall of Fame class, the association has announced.
Arnie Ball coached the IPFW Mastodons for 34 years, leading the team to six Final Four appearances and one national championship game. He was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2012 and was the association's 2007 Coach of the Year.
IPFW named the Hilliard Gates Athletic Center's main court in Ball's honor, and he received the state's Sagamore of the Wabash award to recognize his contribution to Hoosier heritage.
His son Lloy Ball, a Woodburn native and an All-American setter at IPFW, played for the United States in four Olympic Games -- 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008, winning a gold medal in 2008. He was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2015.
