The Fort Wayne Mad Ants issued this news release today:

June 11, 2018 – USA Basketball announced today the roster, including Fort Wayne Mad Ants guard, Trey McKinney Jones, for the USA World Cup Qualifying Team training camp that will get underway on June 20 in Houston.

The training will be used to select the 12-man team for the USA’s third window of FIBA World Cup Qualifying games, which sees the U.S. face Mexico on June 28 in Mexico City and Cuba on July 1 in Havana.

The USA will hold training camp June 20-26 in Houston, and the team is expected to be announced prior to the team’s departure for Mexico on June 26. The player selections are made by the USA Basketball Men’s World Cup Qualifying Team Committee.

McKinney Jones will be joined by: Taylor Braun (Salt Lake City Stars); Alex Caruso (South Bay Lakers); Aaron Harrison (Stockton Kings); Reggie Hearn (Grand Rapids Drive); Myke Henry (Memphis Hustle); Jonathan Holmes (Maine Red Claws); Amile Jefferson (Iowa Wolves); Nick Johnson (Austin Toros); Kevin Jones (Baskonia, Spain); Xavier Munford (Wisconsin Herd); David Stockton (Stockton Kings); Rashawn Thomas (Oklahoma City Blue) and Marcus Thornton (Canton Charge).

The Mad Ants guard returns to training camp this month after previously having to withdraw from the February USA World Cup Qualifying Team training camp due to signing 10-day contract with the Indiana Pacers. The 6-foot-5 guard made his NBA regular-season debut with the Pacers on February 23 in a 116-93 victory against the Atlanta Hawks.

McKinney Jones averaged 12.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 26.9 minutes per contest in 36 games during the 2017-18 season aiding the Mad Ants to the best record in the Central Division.

Former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy, who led the USA to a 5-0 record and the gold medal at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup and has led the USA to a 4-0 record in the first two windows of the World Cup Qualifiers, returns as head coach. Erie Bayhawks Head Coach Josh Longstaff and former Georgetown University coach John Thompson III will serve as USA assistant coaches.
