The Journal Gazette

The Indiana Department of Transportation issued this news release today:

ALLEN COUNTY -- The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that motorists can expect rolling slow-downs and temporary ramp closures in multiple locations beginning Sunday, Aug. 19, weather permitting.

Sunday, Aug. 19

A series of rolling slow-downs will take place on I-469 between mile marker 6 (Bluffton Road) and mile marker 17 (Minnich Road) from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Aug. 19, weather permitting. The traffic slow-downs are needed to allow contractors for Comcast to remove lines over the highway.

With the assistance of law enforcement, drivers will be reduced down to 10 mph or below, to create traffic voids to allow for the safe removal of the lines.

The operation will also require the temporary closure of the following ramps:

  • Winchester Road to eastbound I-469;
  • U.S. 27/Decatur Road to eastbound I-69;
  • East Tillman Road to westbound I-469;
  • Marion Center Road to westbound I-469

Electronic message boards will alert motorists of the rolling slowdown. Drivers may wish to seek an alternate route.

Tuesday, Aug. 21 and Wednesday, Aug. 22

A series of overnight rolling slow-downs will take place on U.S. 30 between the I-69 interchange and Flaugh Road beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 21, weather permitting. The traffic slowdowns, between the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., will allow INDOT contractors to place bridge beams for the Hillegas Road bridge over U.S. 30.

With the assistance of law enforcement, drivers will be reduced down to 10 mph or below, to create traffic voids to allow for the safe placement of the beams.

On Tuesday, Aug. 21, the slow down will impact the following:

  • Westbound U.S. 30 traffic;
  • Southbound U.S. 33 to westbound U.S. 30;
  • Northbound and southbound I-69 to westbound U.S. 30

On Wednesday, Aug. 22, the slow down will impact the following:

  • Eastbound U.S. 30 traffic;
  • Southbound U.S. 33 to eastbound U.S. 30;
  • Northbound and southbound I-69 to eastbound U.S. 30

During any rolling slow down, drivers should be alert for slowed or stopped traffic in the area and are cautioned not to proceed past law enforcement officers until after they have completely cleared the travel lane.
