Local businessman launches mayoral campaign

ASHLEY SLOBODA | The Journal Gazette

In the shadow of the former International Harvester assembly plant grounds, business executive Tim Smith today launched his mayoral campaign.

More than 100 people – including some wearing campaign shirts with the slogan "Expect More" – listened as the Republican outlined goals to make Fort Wayne the safest, smartest and strongest Midwestern city.

Smith, of MedPro Group, said he respects the service of the other mayoral candidates – Mayor Tom Henry and City Councilman John Crawford – but said it's time for new ideas and a leader with business experience.

"Every day the people of Fort Wayne expect more out of city government but they're not getting it," he said. "I believe, even in these economic times, that our political leadership can deliver far more than what Fort Wayne residents currently experience."
