Mad Ants to play regular-season game at Trine

Justin A. Cohn | The Journal Gazette

The Mad Ants will play a game at the MTI Center in Angola on Dec. 30 — the first time they’ve played a game in the regular season away from Memorial Coliseum — and it will be on the campus of Trine University.

The official announcement will come today at 5 p.m.

The Mad Ants have played a preseason game away from the Coliseum before — at Grace College in Winona Lake in 2008.

The Mad Ants will face the Greensboro Swarm.

Tickets may be purchased at or calling the Mad Ants ticket office at 260-469-4667.

The 74,840-square-foot, 3,500-seat MTI Center – built at a cost of $13.7 million – opened its doors on Jan. 3 and also includes a new clubhouse, banquet facilities and pro shop for Zollner Golf Course.

“What an opportunity it is going to be to take the Mad Ants, Pacers and NBA G League brands to the MTI Center for a game this season,” Mad Ants president Tim Bawmann said. “Angola and the surrounding areas have proven to be a luminous market for us to be able to spread our brand. This event allows us to thank fans in the region for their support of our franchise through the years.”

Parking will be free of charge.

“I am excited about the partnership between Trine University and the Fort Wayne Mad Ants,” Trine Athletic Director Matt Land said. “Having a professional basketball game at the MTI Center will add another great event to the list of attractions hosted at our new facility.”
