Fort Wayne City Utilities issued this news release today:
Fort Wayne, IN -- Fort Wayne City Utilities is pleased to announce that on Saturday, October 13, 2018, Allen County residents may drop-off yard waste at the Biosolids Handling Facility at no charge. The facility is located at 6202 Lake Avenue and operates as a processing site for leaves, yard waste and residuals from Fort Wayne’s Water Filtration and Water Pollution Control Plants.
On October 13 from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM Allen County residents may drop-off yard waste including leaves, grass clippings, brush, twigs and branches, and other yard and garden waste. The material may be delivered loose or in degradable paper bags. Items such as root balls with soil attached, gravel, topsoil, and construction debris cannot be accepted. Plastic bags are also not acceptable for drop off.
Free yard waste drop-off is available to vehicles with an Allen County license plate and is limited to non-commercial vehicles.
In addition to being a location for yard waste drop-off, the facility on Lake Avenue is a source for mulch and Biosolids. Mulch is made from collected yard waste that is ground. The Biosolids product is a material that can be used as a fertilizer or soil amendment and is made by combining cleaned and disinfected by-products from the sewage treatment process with composted leaves from the City’s annual leaf collection program. Biosolids and mulch are available at no cost if visitors load the material themselves. City Utilities charges a loading fee for larger quantities loaded by employees at the facility.
