Komets defenseman Ryan Lowney will suffer no further discipline for the major penalty for kneeing and game misconduct he took in Wednesday 2-1 victory over the Rapid City Rush.
However, Garrett Klotz of the Rush was suspended one game by the ECHL for his actions at the end of the game, when he drove Anthony Petruzzelli headfirst into the boards and then got a fighting major for scrapping for Justin Kea.
That will be served Friday when the teams meet again.
I think the Lowney decision is just. As much as I hate knee-on-knee hits, the Rapid City player abruptly changed direction and I don't see a way Lowney could have avoided the hit. I don't think he deserved a major in the first place.
