Verbatim: New Haven City Council President/Mayor Pro Tem, Steve McMichael, Officially Filing to Run for Mayor of New Haven

The following was released on Wed. Jan. 9, 2019 by the Committee to Elect Steve McMichael to Build a Better New Haven: 

NEW HAVEN, IN - The Committee to Elect Steve McMichael to Build a Better New Haven is proud to announce that City Council President/Mayor Pro Tem, Steve McMichael, will be filing today as a Republican candidate for Mayor of New Haven, Indiana.

Councilman McMichael's platform consists of 7 planks that include bettering community engagement, increasing the population, zero-based budgeting, educating our next generation in the matters of local government and community involvement, strengthening the partnerships with governmental agencies and officials, enhancing the relationship between the Mayor and the City Council, and furthering New Haven's reputation as a first-class family friendly city.

On day one Councilman McMichael plans to tackle one of the largest issues facing New Haven, the water and sewer utility rates. McMichael plans to foster community conversation and collaboration to help decide what the best course of action is to solve this issue that is affecting the New Haven community.

Councilman McMichael has been an advocate for the New Haven community for many years. As the current 5th District New Haven City Councilman and City Council President, Councilman McMichael has worked with neighborhood associations to build better neighborhoods, has been a proven fiscal conservative and has worked as a steward of the taxpayer's money. Councilman McMichael was elected as 2018 City Council President by his peers on Council.

Councilman McMichael also serves on various Boards and Committees. Currently, Councilman McMichael is the Chair of the New Haven Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chair of Paulding-Putnam Electric Cooperative Board of Directors, Founding Member and Past Chair of the New Haven Community Foundation, and Board Member of the Indiana Electric Cooperatives. Councilman McMichael has also served as President of the New Haven Redevelopment Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.
