Man sentenced 200 years in homicides

Matthew LeBlanc | The Journal Gazette

A Fort Wayne man who killed three people – one the unborn child of a victim – was sentenced today to 200 years in prison.

Deyante Stephens, 27, was convicted of three counts of murder and a sentencing enhancement for using a gun to commit the crime after a three-day trial in February. He was sentenced this morning in Allen Superior Court and had faced up to 215 years behind bars.

Stephens shot Preonda Jones, 37, Brianna Gould, 24, and the fetus she was carrying on Jan. 20, 2018, inside a home on Lillie Street. Prosecutors at trial said Stephens was high on synthetic marijuana and apparently believed the women were cops.

Defense attorneys argued and a witness testified Stephens and another man left the home after hearing a loud noise and returned to find the women.
