Cody Sol, who spent the last five seasons with the Komets and was an alternate captain, has signed to play next season in Slovakia for Dukla Michalovce.
Sol, 28, had four goals and 11 points in 41 games. In the postseason, he added an assist in six playoff games.
He won the Komets' Bud Gallmeier Award for community service in 2016 and was the team's Defenseman of the Year in 2017.
Sol led the ECHL with 259 penalty minutes in 2015-16. He then transformed his game; he was third in the ECHL at plus-39 in 2016-17 and netted seven goals.
The Komets had expected Sol to play in Europe since this season ended and his departure frees up a veteran spot.
