The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from 2 to 8 p.m. today for most of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.

The advisory is for Allen, Adams, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, Noble, Wabash, Wells and Whitley counties in Indiana and Defiance, Paulding and Van Wert counties in Ohio. Counties nearest the Michigan border are not included.

The heat advisory means that with the temperature in the lower 90s today, combined with humid conditions, heat indices will rise to rise to near 100 degrees this afternoon and evening in the advisory area.

Heat illnesses are possible when outside, in a home without air conditioning or for young children and senior citizens, the weather service said. Pets that are outside may also become heat-stressed.

The weather service encourages residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and in air conditioning if possible.
