OG Anunoby, who said he knew all along his sophomore season at Indiana would be his last, learned his NBA destination Thursday night.
The 6-foot-8 forward is headed to Toronto, drafted by the Raptors in the first round with the No. 23 overall pick. In an interview on ESPN, Anunoby said he thought his rehabilitation from a torn anterior cruciate ligament prevented him from being selected even earlier.
"I think it affected my draft, but everything happens for a reason," Anunoby said. "I'm happy to be playing for the Raptors now. A lot of excitement, nervousness, but I'm happy."
Anunoby said he tried to show NBA executives his "personality, my character, how hard-working I am and how I care about the team."
Anunoby also told ESPN that he learned the importance of hard work during his two seasons in Bloomington and that he will continue to wear the short shorts he rocked as a Hoosier.
He planned to celebrate being drafted by eating a slice of cheesecake.
