McCutcheon point guard commits to IU
CHRIS GOFF | The Journal Gazette
McCutcheon point guard Robert Phinisee announced Saturday he has committed to Indiana, becoming the latest touted addition to the Hoosiers' 2018 recruiting class that had been ranked 12th in the nation.
"First, I would like to thank my family for supporting and believing me," Phinisee wrote in a message posted to his Twitter account. "I would like to thank all the coaches that have taken the time to recruit me. I want to thank Indiana Elite for giving me the exposure I needed to achieve my dream of playing college basketball. I would also like to thank the McCutcheon community for always being supportive in what I do.
"With all that being said, I am very excited to announce that I have committed to Indiana University!"
Phinisee, listed as 6-foot, 155 pounds, chose IU over scholarship offers from Purdue, Butler and Virginia, among others. He averaged 21.7 points, 6.8 assists and 5.9 rebounds per game as a junior and is rated by 247Sports the No. 3 player in the state entering his senior year.
Rivals ranks Phinisee as the No. 121 prospect in his class nationally. Jerome Hunter (No. 51) and Damezi Anderson (No. 87) both committed to the Hoosiers on July 17.
