Blackmon Jr. signs with Sixers
Former Bishop Luers and Indiana standout James Blackmon Jr. signed a contract with the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers the team announced Wednesday.
Blackmon, a 6-foot-4 guard, averaged 8 points, 2.6 rebounds and a steal in five games, including one start, in the NBA Summer League in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas for the Sixers. He also attended the team's rookie minicamp.
Blackmon's deal is partially guaranteed. He will get an invitation to the training camp and "will probably play for the (the G-League's Delaware 87ers)," according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Blackmon was an All-Big Ten third team selection after his junior season with the Hoosiers and left the program with 1,235 points in 76 games. He averaged 17 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists his junior season.
The 76ers also signed 6-9 power forward James Michael McAdoo to a two-way contract with the 87ers on Wednesday.
In other local basketball news, Snider grad Reggie Hearn scored four and had three rebounds while Warsaw native Marshall Plumlee had five points and four rebounds as the United States defeated the Dominican Republic 72-56 in the FIBA Americup in Montevideo, Uruguay. Wendell Williams Jr. led the U.S. with 15 points.
Former Mad Ant Sadiel Rojas scored seven and had 11 rebounds for the Dominican Republic.
