Oladipo to be honored Sunday
Dylan Sinn | The Journal Gazette
Those of you attending the Indiana men's basketball game Sunday against Purdue might want to be sure and get there a little early.
Ten minutes before the 3:30 p.m. game former IU star and current Indiana Pacers player Victor Oladipo will be honored at Assembly Hall.
"Really happy to see that," Archie Miller said of the decision to recognize Oladipo. "Victor has been very supportive of us since we got the (IU) job. To have him back will be an unbelievable feeling for our fans, an unbelievable feeling for our players and our staff to have him back. He's a great guy, just excited to see him continue to do his thing (in the NBA)."
Indiana also announced the first 3,000 fans to enter Assembly Hall after it opens at 1:30 p.m. will receive an Oladipo poster.
In 2013 (it seems like so long ago, doesn't it?), Oladipo averaged 13.6 points and 6.3 rebounds, while playing some of the best defense in the country.
The 25-year-old guard was recently named to his first NBA All-Star Team. In his first season with the Pacers, Oladipo is scoring more than 24 points per game, while hitting 40 percent of his 3-pointers for the first time in his career.
"It's always good having old guys back," Collin Hartman said. "Vic's a legend at Indiana now, not just Indiana basketball but for also the Pacers organization. It's awesome to have guys like that come back and support the program."
Hartman was then asked whether he'd call Oladipo an "old guy" to his face.
"Yeah, I would," he said, with a smile. "People call me old guy already and I have no shame."
