Former IU football coach Mallory in hospice care
Former Indiana head football coach Bill Mallory had emergency brain surgery after falling Tuesday and is in hospice care, according to his son, Curt Mallory.
"The family of Bill Mallory is overwhelmed by the love and support for our father, Papa and beloved husband," Curt Mallory, who is the head football coach at Indiana State, wrote Thursday on Twitter. "All your love and prayers are so very apprec(iated)."
Bill Mallory, 83, coached Indiana from 1984-1996, compiling a 69-77-3 record. He led the Hoosiers to six bowl games in an eight-year span, winning the 1988 Liberty Bowl and the 1991 Copper Bowl. Indiana has not won a bowl game since. Mallory was named Big Ten Coach of the Year twice in his tenure.
