Ex-Hoosier Bryant claimed by Wizards

JOURNAL GAZETTE

The Washington Wizards claimed former Hoosiers big man Thomas Bryant off waivers Monday, according to a report from Yahoo Sports. Bryant had been waived by the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, as the team cleared salary cap room to sign LeBron James.

The Wizards have little current depth in the middle, as Ian Mahinmi is the only center besides Bryant on the roster.

Bryant played 15 games for the Lakers last season after the Utah Jazz picked him in the second round of the 2017 draft and traded him to Los Angeles on draft night. He averaged just 1.5 points in 4.8 minutes per contest in the NBA.

In the G League, however, Bryant was a force, averaging 19.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, while shooting close to 60 percent from the field. He was named All-NBA G League First Team, despite playing just 37 minutes per game.
