Hoosiers rout D-III school in exhibition opener

BLOOMINGTON -- Indiana's first exhibition game displayed some of the elements that would justify the team's No. 11 preseason ranking.
OG Anunoby scored 16 points, James Blackmon Jr. had 15 and Thomas Bryant added 15 with nine rebounds the Hoosiers blew out Hope College, a Division III program, 98-65 on Saturday night at Assembly Hall.
But it was the depth beyond those main three players that allowed Indiana to shoot 59 percent and post a gaudy point total. Freshman guard Devonte Green had a game-high 17 points, Robert Johnson poured in 13 with five rebounds, Juwan Morgan finished with seven points and 12 rebounds, and Josh Newkirk contributed two points and seven assists.
Possible concerns for the Hoosiers coming out of this game would be a somewhat slow start, as the Flying Dutchmen led by seven early and were still within 43-29 at halftime, as well as the fact they committed 18 turnovers.
Indiana forward Freddie McSwain Jr. sat out because of a knee injury. Coach Tom Crean lists McSwain as questionable for Saturday's exhbition finale against Bellarmine, a Division II school.
