IU women fall in WNIT
Indiana's run in the WNIT came to a close in the quarterfinals with a 69-57 loss against Villanova on Sunday at Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers (23-11) could never recover from a 41-30 halftime deficit against the Wildcats (20-14). Indiana cut the margin to single digits in the third with a 10-6 advantage, but Villanova won the final period 22-17.
Tyra Buss led IU with 21 points, and also had eight rebounds and three assists.
Also, Amber Deane had 12 points, Amanda Cahill 10 points and Alexis Gassion added 12 rebounds.
The Hoosiers made only 24 of 63 (38 percent) from the field, including 5 of 22 (23 percent) on 3-pointers. The Wildcats were 23 of 55 (42 percent) and 11 of 29 (38 percent) on 3's.
Indiana made only 4 of 9 from the free-throw line, while Villanova was 12 of 16.
Jannah Tucker led three Villanova players in double figures with 19 points.
