TinCaps pitchers roughed up in road loss

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. – Josh Lester doubled and singled twice, scoring three runs and driving home a couple as the West Michigan Whitecaps topped the TinCaps 12-3 on Tuesday.
Buddy Reed and Alan Garcia each had two hits for the TinCaps (7-12).
Jesse Scholtens (1-1) took the loss after giving up four runs and eight hits over 5 2/3 innings. Former IPFW pitcher Evan Miller allowed five hits and six runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Up 1-0 in the sixth, West Michigan extended its lead when Blaise Salter scored on a wild pitch and Will Savage hit a two-run single.
Fort Wayne answered in the top of the next frame, scoring three runs to get within one, including a single by Alan Garcia that scored Brad Zunica.
The Whitecaps later added six runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to finish off the blowout.
West Michigan starter Kyle Funkhouser (2-0) picked up the win after allowing just four hits over six scoreless innings.
Daniel Pinero singled twice with two runs for West Michigan (11-8).
