TinCaps fall to West Michigan

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. – Josh Lester tripled and doubled, and Alfred Gutierrez allowed just three hits over seven innings as the West Michigan Whitecaps topped the TinCaps 5-0 on Wednesday.

Gutierrez (4-2) struck out seven to pick up the win.

West Michigan scored two runs in the first, including a sacrifice fly by Lester that scored Cam Gibson. The Whitecaps scored again in the fourth inning, when Anthony Pereira hit an RBI single and then scored on a pickoff attempt.

Mason Thompson (0-1) went four innings, giving up five runs and six hits. He also struck out four and walked two.

The TinCaps were held off the scoreboard for the third time this season, while the Whitecaps' staff recorded their 10th shutout of the year.

With the win, West Michigan improved to 7-2 against Fort Wayne this season.
