Keel promoted as TinCaps rained out
Pitcher Jerry Keel was called up from the TinCaps to the Double-A San Antonio Missions on Friday, before Fort Wayne’s game at South Bend was postponed because of inclement weather.
Keel, 23, had pitched 48 2/3 innings this season with Fort Wayne, going 3-2 with a 2.96 ERA, 50 strikeouts and 14 walks. He appeared in 25 games last season with the TinCaps.
To replace him, the TinCaps got back 20-year-old Wilmer Torres from the Missions. He has played in four games with Fort Wayne, with a 7.50 ERA over six innings. With San Antonio, he pitched two innings in one game and he struck out three while allowing two hits and no runs.
The TinCaps (17-31) will face South Bend (28-18) in a doubleheader of 7-inning games at 5:30 p.m. today.
Fort Wayne’s Fernando Tatis Jr. is riding a 21-game on-base streak, the longest active streak in the Midwest League and fourth longest of the season.
