TinCaps swept by South Bend


SOUTH BEND – Alberto Mineo hit a run-scoring single in the fifth inning, leading the South Bend Cubs to a 9-2 win over the TinCaps in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Cubs swept both games of the doubleheader after winning the first game 5-4. 

 The single by Mineo started the scoring in a five-run inning and gave the Cubs a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, South Bend scored on three more plays, including a two-run single by Jhonny Pereda and an RBI single by Luis Ayala.

Zack Short doubled and singled, scoring two runs for South Bend.

Dakota Mekkes (3-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless relief while Ben Sheckler (2-3) took the loss.

South Bend improved to 7-2 against Fort Wayne this season.

Before the game, the TinCaps announced two roster moves, as right-hander Hansel Rodriguez was transferred from Extended Spring Training to Fort Wayne and right-hander Jose Galindo was transferred from Fort Wayne to Extended Spring Training.
