TinCaps shut out South Bend

SOUTH BEND – Logan Allen, Jim McDade and David Bednar combined for a shutout as the TinCaps topped the South Bend Cubs 3-0 on Monday.

Allen (3-2) picked up the win after he struck out five and walked three while giving up five hits over 5 2/3 innings. Duncan Robinson (5-2) went seven innings, giving up one run and four hits while striking out eight. Bednar recorded his sixth save.

In the sixth, Fort Wayne took a 1-0 lead on a home run by G.K. Young. The TinCaps scored again in the eighth when Fernando Tatis hit a sacrifice fly and Jack Suwinski hit an RBI single.

Young homered and singled, scoring two runs in the win.

The Cubs were blanked for the fourth time this season, while the TinCaps' staff recorded its third shutout of the year.

Despite the loss, South Bend is 8-3 against Fort Wayne this season.
