Game 61: TinCaps (21-39) vs. Lansing (33-24)
CHRIS GOFF | The Journal Gazette
In one of the usual quirks of the Midwest League schedule, Lansing's first visit to Parkview Field this season was put off nearly to the end of the first half.
Now that the Lugnuts are finally here, fans who come out to the park or watch on television should know Lansing has more of a must-watch player than other teams the TinCaps face.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is ranked among Baseball America's top 20 prospects. At age 18, he is the No. 1 prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays' farm system and one of the best players in the Midwest League.
Guerrero is hitting .344 with four home runs and more walks than strikeouts. He has driven in 38 runs, tied for third-most in the league.
Is this son of a former American League MVP proof the apple doesn't fall far? Is Vlad Jr. the next great young third baseman?
Fort Wayne fans can judge for themselves over this wraparound series from tonight through Monday. Thus far, however, Guerrero's hype is in line with his actual results.
Every now and then, there is a visiting player you can’t miss. Guerrero's talent, like Vlad Sr. in his prime, will make it nearly impossible to look away.
