TinCaps sweep doubleheader

The TinCaps swept a doubleheader today, defeating the Bowling Green Hot Rods 8-2 and 6-2 in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Buddy Reed had a grand slam in the opener for Fort Wayne, which is now 3-1 in the second half and 29-45 overall, giving it a 5-0 lead. It was the first home run of Reed’s professional career.
The TinCaps padded their lead in the fifth inning when Jorge Oña singled to bring home Rod Boykin for a 6-0 lead. Fernando Tatis Jr.’s steal of home made it 7-0.
Fort Wayne's Pedro Avila, who struck out five, allowed only two runs in six innings of work as Bowling Green (1-3, 32-39) was out-hit 6-5 in the opener.
In the second game, the TinCaps pounced with three runs in the top of the first inning, when Brad Zunica had an RBI double and Hudson Potts had a two-run home run.
With two outs in the third, Oña got his sixth home run of the season for a 4-0 lead. A Zunica home run – his team-leading 11th of the season – made it 5-2.
Fort Wayne’s Logan Allen struck out a career-best 10 batters in six innings, while Bowling Green’s J.D. Busfield also struck out 10 over six innings.
Zunica, Potts, Reed and Jack Suwinski had two hits apiece in the second game, after Tatis and Boykin were Fort Wayne’s multi-hit men in the opener.
It was the third doubleheader of the season for Fort Wayne, which now has a 3-3 record on such days. The TinCaps play host to South Bend at 7 p.m. today.
