Game 76: TinCaps (30-45) vs. South Bend (40-34)
CHRIS GOFF | The Journal Gazette
Two of the TinCaps' best players were promoted Tuesday as the San Diego Padres enacted a midseason shuffle of their farm system.
Starting pitcher Logan Allen and reliever David Bednar are headed to high-A Lake Elsinore after each excelled at low-A Fort Wayne.
Allen, who appeared in the Midwest League All-Star Game last week, is 5-4 with a 2.11 ERA. The league was batting just .201 against the 20-year-old left-hander with 85 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings.
Allen also pitched for the TinCaps last year and owns an 8-8 career record as a TinCap with a 2.65 ERA.
Bednar, 22, had been the closer this year. He saved nine games in 10 chances with a 1.87 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings.
The TinCaps' roster subtracted Allen and Bednar but expanded back to the 25-man limit Tuesday as pitchers Ronald Bolanos and Mark Zimmerman rejoined the active roster.
Bolanos, who was on paternity leave, came off the temporary inactive list hours before his scheduled start at Parkview Field on Military Appreciation Night.
Zimmerman, who appeared in 12 games for Fort Wayne earlier this season out of the bullpen, was promoted from short-season Tri-City, where he allowed one run in four innings.
