Game 87: TinCaps (36-50) vs. Lansing (42-40)
CHRIS GOFF | The Journal Gazette
The TinCaps are 21-22 at home this season and have a chance to even that record by winning the second of this four-game set against Lansing tonight at Parkview Field.
Coming off a 6-4 victory on Friday night, Fort Wayne is 6-2 in the season series against the Lugnuts. The two clubs, both hunting a playoff spot, play 15 times total, so the TinCaps are two wins shy of clinching the head-to-head tiebreaker.
They send Reggie Lawson to the mound tonight. He is opposed by Lancing's Geno Encina, who was having a quality season as a reliever before being shifted to the starting rotation.
Encina is only one outing into the experiment, so the TinCaps won't have much to draw on. They did face him twice out of the bullpen for a total of 5 1/3 innings. On Monday, the 23-year-old right-hander made his first start since 2015 and earned the win against South Bend. Encina went 5 1/3 innings and gave up just one earned run on five hits.
Lawson faced the Lugnuts in June and threw six shutout innings.
Here is Fort Wayne's lineup:
Fernando Tatis Jr. SS
Reinaldo Ilarraza 3B
Jorge Ona LF
Brad Zunica 1B
Marcus Greene Jr. C
G.K. Young DH
Jack Suwinski RF
Nate Easley 2B
Rod Boykin CF
