TinCaps win fourth straight
The TinCaps won their fourth straight with a 5-1 win at Burlington on Thursday.
Fort Wayne (14-7 second half, 40-51) has now won five of its last six and is 21-12 over its last 33 games since June 7 after starting the season 19-39.
Jorge Oña brought in Nate Easley and Reinaldo Ilarraza on a double in the sixth as Fort Wayne took a 2-1 lead. Oña then scored on a Brad Zunica single to make it 3-1.
In the eighth, Ilarraza and Oña each scored again on a single from Hudson Potts.
Ilarraza extended his on-base streak to 16 games and Oña his on-base (17 games) and hitting streaks (10 games).
Burlington (9-12, 40-50) scored its only run in the first inning when Jordan Zimmerman homered to left.
Jim McDade (2-1) struck out six and gave up five hits in seven innings and Hansel Rodriguez struck out three in two innings of relief for the TinCaps.
Fort Wayne leads the Midwest League with 820 strikeouts in 790 1/3 innings pitched.
Burlington starter Jose Suarez struck out nine and walked one in five innings and Reliever Ty Barkell (1-4) gave up three earned runs on four hits in two innings.
The TinCaps go for a series sweep at 7:30 p.m. today at Burlington.
