TinCaps hold off Cougars to win series
CHRIS GOFF | The Journal Gazette
Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his 17th home run of the season, but the TinCaps didn't need much offense Monday night to extend their run of dominance at home.
Thanks to a pitching staff that had 15 strikeouts, Fort Wayne stymied Kane County 2-1 to take two out of three games in the series and still has not lost a series at Parkview Field since early June.
In his fourth start for the TinCaps, Michel Baez (3-0) pitched five innings and gave up one run on four hits with nine strikeouts. Left-hander Will Headean followed with three scoreless innings, and Hansel Rodriguez retired the side in order for his sixth save.
Fort Wayne (46-55, 20-11 second half) went ahead 2-1 in the third on Tatis' solo shot. He finished 2 for 4 and collected his 22nd stolen base.
The Cougars (54-44, 15-16) tied the game in the top of the third on Marcus Wilson's ninth homer.
Jorge Oña finished 2 for 4 with an RBI single. He has reached base safely in 25 straight games, Fort Wayne's longest streak since 2014.
