TinCaps fall to Whitecaps
Of Reggie Lawson's four losses this season, two have come at West Michigan.
The TinCaps' 19-year-old right-hander struggled with his control Thursday night, and the Whitecaps capitalized with a 4-2 victory before an announced crowd of 7,760 at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Michigan.
Lawson (3-4) pitched only four innings and gave up four runs on four hits with six strikeouts. He issued four walks, hit a batter with a pitch and threw four wild pitches, including one that allowed a run score to give West Michigan a 4-2 lead.
Fort Wayne (47-56, 21-12 second half) took leads of 1-0 on Fernando Tatis Jr.'s third-inning RBI double and 2-1 on Hudson Potts' fourth-inning home run, his 11th of the year.
The first-place Whitecaps (67-31, 22-9) responded with three in the bottom of the fourth, including Dylan Burdeaux's RBI single and Derek Hill's RBI groundout.
Cole Bauml hit a tying RBI triple in the third for West Michigan, which received a fine outing from Alfred Gutierrez (8-5). In seven innings, he held the TinCaps to two runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts.
