TinCaps fall to Loons in 10 innings
CHRIS GOFF | The Journal Gazette
Gabriel Arias struck out Thursday night with the bases loaded in the 10th inning, ending the TinCaps' 4-2 loss to Great Lakes at Parkview Field.
Fort Wayne (66-70, 40-26 second half) sent Joe Galindo to the pitcher's mound in the 10th, but he found immediate trouble, giving up a leadoff double and eventually the game-winning RBI single by Christian Santana. Cody Thomas' RBI single later made it 4-2.
Michel Baez pitched seven innings for Fort Wayne and gave up just one run on four hits with five strikeouts. His lone blemish came on Gavin Lux's third-inning RBI single.
In the bottom of that inning, catcher A.J. Kennedy hit his second home run of the season to tie the score.
Hudson Potts hit a go-ahead RBI double in the sixth, and that 2-1 lead lasted into the eighth before Great Lakes received new life. Andres Munoz, who joined the TinCaps on Tuesday when Will Headean was promoted, threw a run-scoring wild pitch that made it 2-2.
The Loons (67-68, 31-35) also got seven innings out of their starter, Leo Crawford. He gave up two runs on seven hits.
Jack Suwinski, who finished 4 for 5, led off the bottom of the 10th with a double. Nate Easley walked, but Jeremiah Muhammad (2-1) recorded his third scoreless inning by retiring the next three hitters, including Arias swinging for the final out.
