Pregame thoughts on TinCaps' series opener
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
Heading into tonight’s game at Parkview Field between the TinCaps and the Dayton Dragons, which opens the Eastern Division Championship Series, one has to wonder if the Dragons will still be able to ride momentum of their upset of West Michigan or be beleaguered after finishing off the supposed favorites in extra innings Friday night.
As for the TinCaps, who had a day of rest after defeating Bowling Green in a two-game sweep, it’s amazing to look back at the beginning of the season and remember just how young this team was, chock full of teenagers on the roster – the youngest team in the Midwest League.
While Fort Wayne and Dayton split the regular-season series 7-7, history favors the TinCaps tonight because they were 6-1 in games at Parkview Field.
It should be noted, however, that the Dragons won nine of their last 10 regular-season games. They were 16-5 heading into their upset of West Michigan.
While I’ve only stepped in for beat writer Chris Goff a few times this year, it was enough to know this about the TinCaps: consistency is the key to them winning. They have to start strong and not let up or the red-hot Dragons will probably make them pay.
