TinCaps shut out by Great Lakes
MIDLAND, Mich. – Jesus Vargas, Dan Jagiello and Aneurys Zabala combined for a shutout as the Great Lakes Loons defeated the TinCaps 5-0 on Tuesday. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Loons and a three-game winning streak for the TinCaps.
Vargas (2-0) went five scoreless innings, giving up three hits while striking out three and walking one to get the win. Aaron Leasher (1-1) went 3 1/3 innings, giving up five runs and five hits. He also struck out six and walked two.
In the bottom of the first, Great Lakes took the lead on a single by Nick Yarnall that scored Romer Cuadrado. The Loons then added three runs in the second and a run in the fourth. In the second, Ramon Rodriguez hit a three-run home run before he singled to score Brandon Montgomery in the fourth.
Rodriguez homered and singled, driving home four runs in the win.
The TinCaps were held scoreless for the first time this season, while the Loons' staff also registered their first shutout of the year.
