Margevicius, Ornelas lead TinCaps over West Michigan



COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. – Tirso Ornelas tripled and doubled twice, and Nick Margevicius gave up just five hits over seven innings as the TinCaps defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps 3-0 on Thursday. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the TinCaps and a six-game winning streak for the Whitecaps.

Margevicius (3-2) struck out seven and walked one to pick up the win.

In the top of the first, Fort Wayne took the lead on a double by Luis Campusano that scored Ornelas. The TinCaps then added single runs in the second and fifth innings. In the second, Luis Almanzar hit an RBI double, while Ornelas hit an RBI triple in the fifth.

Jesus Rodriguez (2-3) went six innings, giving up three runs and seven hits. He also struck out six and walked two. Travis Radke pitched two scoreless innings for his fifth save of the season.

The seven extra-base hits for Fort Wayne included a season-high six doubles.

West Michigan was blanked for the fourth time this season, while the Fort Wayne staff recorded its first shutout of the year.
