Fort Wayne fell 5-3 to West Michigan on Friday in front of an announced paid attendance of 5,621.
Robbie Podorsky hit his first home run of the season in the sixth for the TinCaps' (32-38, 0-1 second half) first run.
In the bottom of the eighth, Esteury Ruiz hit a two-run homer, his seventh of the season, to bring in Jeisson Rosario to make the score 5-3.
The Whitecaps (37-34, 1-0) jumped to a 4-0 lead after three innings thanks to a three-run third.
In the second, Dylan Rosa brought in Reynaldo Rivera on a single to center.
Colby Bortles brought in Garrett McCain with a single and Rivera delivered again with a two-run double to left scoring Jose Azocar and Bortles.
McCain added another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
The TinCaps' rally in the seventh was thwarted by Whitecaps starter Elvin Rodriguez who struck out back-to-back batters after Luis Campusano and Gabrial Arias got on base. A line-out by Jalen Washington ended the inning.
Fort Wayne starter MacKenzie Gore gave up four earned runs on six hits, striking out three in three innings.
Rodriguez gave up one earned run on seven hits, striking out five in seven innings.
The original plan Friday was to play two 7-inning games to make up for Thursday's rain-out but more rain was forecasted to come through, impacting the 5:30 p.m. scheduled start time.
The TinCaps will play a single 9-inning game Saturday and make-up the rained-out game with a double-header on Sunday. Both days' games are set to begin at their originally scheduled times of 7:05 p.m. today and 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
