TinCaps win, snap losing skid
The TinCaps snapped a four-game losing streak Monday afternoon in a 4-0 win over the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park in Peoria, Illinois.
Starter Osvaldo Hernandez and relievers Dylan Coleman and Travis Radke carried the team in Fort Wayne’s sixth shutout of the season, and third of the month.
Hernandez threw six innings, limiting Peoria to three singles and striking out three with no walks. The 2018 draft pick out of Missouri State threw 70 pitches (48 strikes) as he lowered his ERA to 2.09 – the lowest in the Midwest League.
Kelvin Melean put Fort Wayne (45-49, 13-12 second half) on the board after shortstop Gabriel Arias hit a two-out RBI single in the top of the first inning against Peoria (52-41, 13-10).
Fort Wayne increased its lead in the third when Melean scored on a Luis Campusano two-out RBI single. Campusano finished with a game-high three hits.
A home run in the seventh by Jalen Washington and another run by Melean put it away for the TinCaps. Robbie Podorsky added a pair of singles, extending his hitting streak to 11 games.
The TinCaps return home Wednesday for a six-game homestand.
