TinCaps rained out, doubleheader Thursday

DYLAN SINN | The Journal Gazette

The TinCaps' series-opener against the South Bend Cubs on Wednesday never got underway. A light rain forced a delay at the start of the game and the rain got heavier as the night wore on with no let-up in sight, leading to the game being postponed until Thursday.

The postponement creates a doubleheader beginning Thursday afternoon. First pitch of the first game will be at 5:35 p.m. at Parkview Field with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the end of the first. Both games will be seven innings, per minor-league baseball doubleheader rules. The TinCaps plan to keep the same pitching schedule, meaning Wednesday's starter Osvaldo Hernandez will start the first game of the doubleheader and scheduled Thursday starter Tom Cosgrove will pitch the nightcap.

The postponement also means the celebration of the four-millionth fan at Parkview Field, which was scheduled to happen Wednesday, will instead be pushed to Thursday. Fans who entered the drawings to win a portion of the $10,000 in merchandise the team will give away for the occasion do not have to enter again to be eligible to win and fans who purchase tickets to Thursday's games can enter at Fans with tickets to Wednesday's game can redeem the ticket stub at any of the remaining home games this season.
