TinCaps 8, Dayton 4

Weathers, TinCaps slay Dragons

Ryan Weathers pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up two runs and striking out five and Luis Almanzar and Blake Hunt clubbed home runs to propel the TinCaps to a 8-4 win over the Dayton Dragons on Tuesday at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.

Weathers (2-0), the TinCaps' top prospect, picked up his second win in as many starts after throwing 80 pitches, giving up six hits and walking two. He gave up a pair of solo home runs, the first homers he's surrendered in six Midwest League appearances. Dragons leadoff hitter Miguel Bautista greeted Weathers with a home run in the first inning.

The TinCaps (8-5) trailed 1-0 into the third, but scored four runs in that inning to take the lead for good. Hunt had the big blast with a two-out, two-run homer, his first of the season. All four runs scored with two out. Almanzar added his third home run of the season in the fourth inning to push Fort Wayne in front 5-1.

Dayton starting pitcher Jhon De Jesus (1-1) gave up six runs in four innings and took the loss.

Tom Colletti added 1 1/3 innings of scoreless work in relief of Weathers and Carlos Belen pitched the final two innings. Belen, a converted infielder, worked a scoreless eighth, but surrendered two runs on three hits in the ninth. Bautista added an RBI single to his earlier homer.

Fort Wayne's Grant Little went 3 for 5 with two RBI for his third three-hit game in the last seven and Tucupita Marcano chipped in two hits, including a double, and scored three times.

The teams finish their three-game series in Dayton at 7:05 p.m. today.
