The Tucson Roadrunners have released goaltender Michael Houser and defenseman Ryan Culkin and they are headed to the Komets.
Houser played last season with Cincinnati of the ECHL, going 22-14-1 with a 2.58 goals-against average, a .919 save percentage and two shutouts. He’s got 72 games of experience in the higher-level American Hockey League.
The Komets also have goalies Garrett Bartus, Alex Sakellaropoulos and Sean Bonar, but it’s sounding as if they’ll keep three goalies.
Culkin, 23, was a fifth-round draft pick of the NHL’s Calgary Flames in 2012. Last season, he was scoreless in 19 games with Stockton of the AHL and had one goal and 12 points in 16 games with Adirondack of the ECHL. He’s 6-foot-2, 201 pounds.
The Roadrunners also released Gabriel Desjardins, Dennis Kravchenko and Cody Sol, who had already been signed by the Komets.
The only player still in camp with an AHL team is defenseman Curtis Leonard, interesting because many would have pegged him as the least likely to stick.
