Komets win, take over 1st place

The Komets took over first place in the Central Division thanks to a 5-3 victory over the Indy Fuel on Tuesday night in Indianapolis.
Garrett Bartus, getting a rare second straight start in net, stopped 30 shots for the Komets (26-12-2) as they leapfrogged the Toledo Walleye in the division race.
All-star Artur Tyanulin had the game’s final goal and two assists for the Komets, who have won five straight games.
A crowd of 3,307 attended the game at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Komets defenseman Bobby Shea opened the scoring 5:57 into the first period and forward Justin MacDonald’s first goal with Fort Wayne made it 2-0 at 2:05 of the second period.
Forward Mason Baptista made it 3-0 at 4:30.
After Indy’s Darian Dziurzynski netted a goal, forward Dennis Kravchenko answered 2:30 into the third period for a 4-1 lead. Indy’s Josh Shalla scored 1:11 later.
Johnny McInnis trimmed the deficit for Indy (16-19-3) to one goal on a power play at 14:26 but Tyanulin cemented the victory 2:25 later as Fort Wayne outshot the Fuel 41-33.
Forward Trevor Cheek, who was sent down from Tucson of the American Hockey League on Sunday, played his first game of the season for the Komets. He had an assist and was plus-3.
