Komets surge past Cyclones

Jamie Schaafsma had a goal and two assists as the Komets downed the Cincinnati Cyclones 5-2 on Saturday night at U.S Bank Arena.
The Komets (27-13-2) have won five of their last six games.
Goaltender Garrett Bartus stopped 29 shots as he won his fifth straight start.
For the Cyclones (22-16-2), who have won only one of their last seven games, Jason Kasdorf stopped 25 of 29 shots before he was replaced with 1:57 remaining in front of 7,430 fans.
Alex Kile opened the scoring for the Cyclones 5:56 into the first period, and they maintained that 1-0 lead through the first intermission, but the Komets went on to net four straight goals to take control.
Marco Roy tied it during a power play 3:47 into the second period. Logan Nelson scored at 5:45. Ryan Lowney made it 3-1 at 5:48 of the third period and Gabriel Desjardins scored at 11:05. Schaafsma made it 5-2 at 18:41.
On power plays, Fort Wayne was 1 for 5 and Cincinnati was 1 for 4. Of the 65 penalty minutes, 48 were assessed to the Cyclones, who had two three misconducts, including a major and game misconduct on Kile for elbowing in the second period.
The Komets play host to the Rapid City Rush at Memorial Coliseum at 8 p.m. Friday.
