Baptista stays hot, so do Komets

What a week it has been for the Komets, who defeated the Quad City Mallards 5-1 at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, Illinois on Saturday night and extended their winning streak to a season-best six games.

Including their back-to-back victories over the Wichita Thunder, the Komets are 3-0-0 since Wednesday and have outscored the opposition 22-8.

They finish off their set of four games in five days at 5 p.m. today at Memorial Coliseum against the Mallards.

Mason Baptista scored twice on his game-high seven shots Saturday, extending his goal-scoring streak to five games, during which he’s totaled six goals.

Trevor Cheek netted a goal to extend his goal streak to four games.

Justin MacDonald and Dennis Kravchenko also scored goals for the Komets, who got 29 saves from goaltender Michael Houser.

The Komets (32-13-2), who are in second place in the Central Division, have won 11 of their last 12 games.

The Mallards (15-27-4), who got a power-play goal from Jake Bolton to cut Fort Wayne’s lead to 2-1 in the second period, are winless in six games this season against the Komets. Garrett Thompson, who assisted on two goals, leads the season series with five goals and 11 points for the Komets.

Netminder Ivan Kulbakov stopped 38 of 43 shots for Quad City.

Quad City was 1 for 4 on power plays. Fort Wayne was 0 for 5.
