The Komets’ lineup was strengthened even more today with the return of Artur Tyanulin from Tucson of the higher-level American Hockey League. Tyanulin, who has one assist in eight AHL games, has 14 goals and 29 points in 26 games with the Komets and was their lone all-star selection, even though they have the ECHL’s leading scorer, Shawn Szydlowski.
Also, the Komets announced their annual “Pink the Rink” nights will be Feb. 23 and 24, when they play host to Brian Gratz-coached Greenville Swamp Rabbits. The Komets and the Vera Bradley Foundation have raised more than $86,000 through six years for the fight against breast cancer. The Komets will wear special jerseys that will be auctioned off and sell autographed pucks for $10 each.
“We are honored to partner with the Fort Wayne Komets with the ‘Pink the Rink’ games again this year,” said Lynda Houk, executive director of the Vera Bradley Foundation. “The fans and the Komets team show their support by wearing pink, giving special recognition to survivors and raising funds for breast cancer research. The research we are funding is making great strides in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Together we are making a difference.”
