K's deal McKernan, more
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
The Komets traded defenseman Kevin McKernan to the South Carolina Stingrays to complete the deal of last September that brought them Mitch Nylen.
McKernan, a rookie out of Quinnipiac, joined the Komets on March 17 and played in nine regular-season games. He was scoreless in those games.
In the playoffs, McKernan, who also spent some time at forward, had one assist in eight games, helping the Komets reach overtime of Game 7 of the Western Conference finals before they lost to the eventual-champion Colorado Eagles.
Nylen was cut by the Komets before the regular season began and wound up with the Cincinnati Cyclones, accruing one goal and eight points in 42 games. The Komets ousted the Cyclones from the first round of the playoffs.
