Komets' Hodgman had stress fracture

JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

Many of the Komets’ players were dealing with injuries throughout the season, but I just found out about this one that’s particular noteworthy: Justin Hodgman says he has a stress fracture in his hip.

It wasn’t known that his injury was that serious, he said, and that it had been bothering him severely since March.

Hodgman, who was the Komets’ all-star this season, was a scratch in the final two games of the series against Toledo.

Hodgman will be on crutches for a month to heal.

In other news, Toledo completed its series victory over regular-season champion Cincinnati in five games. (The Komets took the Walleye to six games.).

From what I watched of the series, it looked like the Cyclones didn’t review much tape of the Fort Wayne series because they were trying to play too much of a pretty, dipsy-doodle game. To beat Toledo, you need traffic, a forecheck and hard-nosed hockey. Cincinnati totaled 10 goals with its high-powered offense.

I have to believe Florida is now the Kelly Cup favorite but Toledo is right there.
